New Members Wanted

You are invited to join us for a rehearsal.

If you love singing and are looking for a musical outlet, give us a  try.  You are welcome to visit us at a rehearsal and either sing along with us on the risers or  just watch and listen.  Our style is four part a cappella barbershop harmony.  It’s different from the SATB you may be used to.  Please continue reading below to learn more about the different parts we sing and what part might fit you best.  Don’t forget to check out Barbershop 101 to learn even more and hear examples.

Frequently Asked Question

If you have additional questions or just want to know more, contact us at: sing@grandolympicschorus.org

Do I need to read music?

No, reading music is not required but a good ear for music, ability to sing your part independently and without the aid of sheet music once learned are important skills. Learning tools, such as part recordings and videos are provided. Section leaders are available to assist in the learning process. Recording your own performance (using a personal recording device or your cellphone) can help in the memorization process and help assess your progress and can be important keys to your success.

What exactly is barbershop?

Barbershop is four part a cappella harmony, but different from the SATB you may be familiar with. Please visit the Sweet Adelines International Barbershop 101 page for a great explanation including links to videos.

How do I know what part I sing?

If you're not sure which part you want to try, our director or one of our musical leaders will help you determine your best fit.

Do I have to audition in front of the whole chorus to become a member?

NO!  If you decide you would like to become a member, you will be asked to independently sing your part for our director with an audition quartet.

Where do you perform?

There are various locations and occasions that we sing for through out the year. We do patriotic songs at the Veteran's Day service on the Coast Guard Station, 9/11 ceremony, the National Anthem at Lefties baseball games. During the holidays we sing for the lighting of Lake Crescent, various locations in Sequim from the Lodge to Safeway. We do at least one show a year and also compete at regional in Spokane.
